The Adventure Playground

An ongoing project documenting the Martin Luther King Adventure Playground in Islington, London. The Playground has a long history which dates back to the 60's when this area of Islington was crowded and condemned with high levels of poverty and racial tensions. A parent group set up a temporary adventure playground on what was a 10 acre demolition site.

In the decades since it's establishment MLK adventure playground has welcomed generations of children to play.

In recent years the playground has undergone a refurbishment of the building and playground site, essentially becoming a blank slate for creation again. Since their re-opening I have been visiting the playground to document the evolving creations of play and the marks children leave behind with their play. I take photos only when the children are not there so as to not interfere with their playing and they will decide what they would like to do with the images.
